We believe traceability and freshness aren't optional — they're the whole point.
We visit farms directly — or work with vetted importers who do — to verify growing conditions, processing methods, and fair compensation.
Every lot is cupped multiple times before we commit. We only purchase coffees that score above 84 SCA points and genuinely excite us.
Small batches on a 15 kg drum roaster in our NE Portland roastery. Every profile is developed over months of iteration and locked down before release.
Orders roast-to-order, then ship within 48 hours. Kraft bags with one-way degassing valves. No CO2-flushing theatrics — just fresh coffee, fast.
Harrow & Stone was founded in 2018 by two former line cooks who grew increasingly obsessed with the parallels between sourcing seasonal produce and sourcing exceptional coffee.
We started small — 5 kg batches in a shared commercial kitchen — and grew slowly on purpose. Today we operate a modest roastery in the Woodlawn neighbourhood of NE Portland, where we roast three to four days a week, take Tuesdays off for cupping new lots, and close the shop on Sundays so everyone can actually rest.
We don't have investors. We don't have a growth target. We have a 15 kg drum roaster, a subscription list, and strong feelings about water temperature.
